Falconer’s Flight APA: Tasting Notes

Falconer’s Flight APA: Tasting Notes

One month since brew day, the Falconer’s Flight APA, an American-style pale ale using Falconer’s Flight hop blend, has finished fermentation, kegged, and is tasting nice. This APA came out great, with the late hopping of the Falconer’s Flight really pronounced. A review and recipe below. Cheers and happy brewing! Review Pouring into a tulip … Continue reading

Big Oatmeal Stout: Tasting Notes

Big Oatmeal Stout: Tasting Notes

From the brew day last March, finally, here are the tasting notes to my Big Oatmeal Stout (the link to the brew day is here). This one came out great and has been folding up well with age. Coming in at 6% ABV, this beer isn’t that strong across the stout spectrum (Imperial stout, for … Continue reading

From the Archives: Red IPA

From the Archives: Red IPA

I was experimenting with hop blends, this one being a 50/50 mix of Centennial and Tettnang hops. The idea was to try to get a strong floral aroma by combining … Continue reading

2013 Summer Solstice Brew: Blonde Barleywine

Hence Blonde Barleywine! After aging for 6 months in bottle (fairly young for a barleywine), I gave this one a … Continue reading

Naked Blonde Ale: Tasting Notes

Naked Blonde Ale: Tasting Notes

After anxiously awaiting over 2 months, the Naked Blonde Ale (an American Blonde Ale with a high proportion of Simpsons Golden Naked Oats) has completed fermentation and bottled-conditioning. Starting at 1.046, using US-05, this ale finished fermentation down to 1.009, attenuating over 80% (this was due to low mash temperatures). Fermenting around 68 F, the US-05 showed … Continue reading

Show me your Pewter Tankard!

Show me your Pewter Tankard!

During a recent visit to Galveston, I came across this beautiful piece of beer drinkware, a pewter tankard. I found it at a pretty legit antique store in the downtown area and purchased it in good condition for ~$5 (similar ones seem to be going for around~$10 on ebay)! As pictured, it’s a pretty basic design, modern pewter walls … Continue reading
